When I first began drawing full-time, my drawings covered a wide variety from portraits, pets to old cars and buildings. Through this experimentation came a discovery - animals, pets and wildlife were my forte. These creatures are very endearing and there is a certain amount of peace derived from completing these drawings. Often I meet my subjects in zoos and wildlife parks and in my own small way I am able to set them free in my drawings. By the time I have completed a drawing, which can take several weeks, I have grown very close to the creature. My drawing seem to attract others in the same way - they are drawn to the eyes and the life that is portrayed in the drawings.
Spending his childhood years in the Peace River area of B.C., Marc has a special affinity for the nature and history of his province. Through the tip of a pencil he breathes life into the subjects he portrays; from wildlife and pets, to portraits, old buildings and cars. Marc has enjoyed art from an early age. In 1988, after a 20 year banking career, he left his security to follow a dream of pursuing his art. Since that time, this self-taught artist has achieved recognition from the B.C. Heritage Trust, the Interior Provincial Exhibition, and the Kelowna Historical Society. As well he has held one man showings and had his work chosen to exhibit in other B.C. shows including one for the Okanagan Historical Society and The Canim Lake Arts Council. His works have been
chosen to appear on the cover of two Okanagan publications and his illustrative talents are displayed in the published children's book, "Big Little Dog" and the '93/'94 Vacation Guide for the Okanagan, Similkameen. Marc is always in demand for commission work. He is presently working on illustrations for another children’s book. images ©copyright Marc Houde 3027
