These images were executed in acrylics on stretched canvas in primarily an impressionistic style. Acrylics are usually associated with large flat masses of vivid color. However, the techniques employed in this sampling are essentially the same as one would use with oils and therefore they are often mistaken for oil paintings.
I was born in 1952 and currently make my home in North Carolina, USA. Technically, I’m a “folk artist”, or one who has no formal training in the arts. However, my style runs the gamut of impressionistic to realism with traditional subject matter. I like to paint broadly with bold brushstrokes, lighting and vivid color. My artistic goal is to preserve a single moment in time making the simplest statement possible. I also accept commissions for portraiture, both humans and pets which are creatively painted from photos. My work is currently in private collections throughout the eastern seaboard of the United States. images ©copyright Lee Smith 1841
